Dermal Fillers

In youth, an abundance of two important substances, collagen and hyaluronic acid, keep your skin looking smooth and supple. Collagen is a protein that provides your skin with structural support. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells that attracts and binds water, hydrating the skin and giving it volume.

With time, sunlight and other factors, collagen and hyaluronic acid in your skin diminish, the skin loses structure and volume, and unwelcome lines and wrinkles appear.
Healthy skin contains important components that keep it supple and young looking. One of these is hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural sugar found in all living cells that helps maintain skin volume by attracting and binding over 1,000 times its weight in water. However, with time, sunlight and other factors, the hyaluronic acid in your skin diminishes, your skin loses volume, and lines and wrinkles appear.
The look of your skin depends, amongst other things, on the substance hyaluronic acid, which gives your skin its volume. Aging, diseases and injuries are some of the factors that weaken the amount and quality of hyaluronic acid. Until now, it has not been possible to use hyaluronic acid in the skin without using a product of animal origin. Dermal fillers are available for treatment of lips, wrinkles and folds.

How do dermal fillers work?
All products are based on a hyaluronic acid gel that is injected into he skin in order to lift up wrinkles or add volume to the lips.

What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found throughout the body. It gives, for example, volume to the skin, lubricates the joints and gives the eye its shape.

What kind of wrinkles can be treated?
Common areas are the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the wing of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the wrinkles around the lips and around the eyes, but other sites can also be treated.

What results can be obtained from lip treatment?
The vermilion border can be accentuated and the lip can be given more volume.

What is the treatment like?
Just think, in less than an hour, you can say goodbye to unwanted lines and wrinkles like the smile lines that appear between your nose and mouth, or the marionette lines that turn down the corners of your mouth.
The treatment is a very easy and quick process. Since no pre-test is required, the treatment can be carried out immediately and takes between 15 and 30 minutes. The result is instant.

Is it painful?
This is very individual depending on how sensitive to pain you are. The injections may prick a little but normally no anesthesia is needed for the treatment of wrinkles. Lip treatment can be quite uncomfortable and therefore a freezing such as Lidocaine (dental freezing) may be injected prior to the treatment.

How long does the effect last?
Since dermal fillers are made of a substance very similar to your own skin, the same ongoing process (such as aging) that changes the structure of your skin will also alter the implant. Eventually the implant totally disappears from the body. How long the effect of the treatment lasts is very individual. It depends on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle and ages as well as on the degree of perfection demanded by the individual. Most patients choose to have touchup treatments done within 6-12 months of the original treatment. For lip augmentation, new treatment is normally needed after about 4-8 months. If you choose not to do touch-up treatments, the correction will gradually disappear until your skin looks just as it did before the treatment.

Hylaform® is a dermal filler made from a highly purified form of hyaluronic acid that mimics the effects of natural hyaluronic acid. When injected just below the surface of the skin, Hylaform® adds volume to the skin, smoothing unwanted lines and wrinkles.
Hylaform® gel is injected just below the surface of the skin, filling in unwanted lines and wrinkles.
It can be used to fill in smile lines around the nose and mouth, small lines above the mouth, frown lines between the eyes, and to minimize deep creases on the corners of the mouth.

Benefits of Hylaform®:
Immediate treatment - no pre-treatment skin test required
Immediate results
Proven safety - used in international markets for nearly a decade
Mild adverse post-treatment responses (such as redness, bruising and swelling)

What areas can be treated with Hylaform®?
The most common areas treated are the smile lines around your nose and mouth, marionette lines at the corners of your mouth, frown lines between the eyes and fine lines above the mouth.

Restylane® has a highly favorable safety profile. It is composed of non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the human body. Restylane is fully biocompatible. There is limited risk of animal-based disease transmission or development of allergic reactions to animal proteins. No allergy testing is required before use.*

Restylane maintains its shape using the body's own moisture. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is hydrophilic or "water loving." As hyaluronic acid gradually degrades, each molecule binds to more water and over time, the same volume can be maintained with less hyaluronic acid. This ability of hyaluronic acid to bind to water is what helps provide long-lasting results.

Unlike rooster-derived hyaluronic acids and bovine collagen products, Restylane is free from animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmissions or development of allergic reactions to animal proteins.

Captique®, a non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid is now available for injection into facial wrinkles and creases.
Captique®, plant-based, is a dermal filler based on a non-animal hyaluronic acid. Hence, no pre-test in necessary is needed as one of it's main components, hyaluronic acid, occurs naturally in the body. Captique® is a clear gel that can be injected into the lips as well as wrinkles, to provide a desired augmentation and refreshed, younger appearance.

Once injected it works together with your body's own hyaluronic acid and lasts longer than bovine-derived collagen, or human cadaveric collagen. Similar to other soft tissue fillers, it adds volume to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth.Captique® is a clear, colorless gel which produces immediate results and lasts up to one year.
Advantages may include decreased swelling and bruising which sometimes can be seen with other products.
